Preventative Espresso Machine Maintenance

Start of the Day

  1. Turn on water to machine.
  2. Turn on power to machine.
  3. Open at least one steam jet.  Allow steam to escape from steam jet with some pressure before closing.  Pressure will now build up quickly.  You have ensured that you do not have a negative pressure vessel or a false pressure reading.  If you have a false pressure reading, you may find that when you go to make a cappuccino you will not have the required steam.

Daily Care

Backwashing your Espresso Machine - It is recommended that you backwash your machine daily, as a clean machine will give you the best tasting coffee.

  1. Fit the blind filter to the group handle.
  2. Place a ¼ teaspoon of machine cleaner into the filter and place handle into group head.
  3. Using manual switch, turn on group for 5 seconds then switch off, repeat 10 times.
  4. Remove handle and allow water to run from group head.
  5. Rinse, clean and replace handle in group head. Now again operate manually for 10 x 5 seconds to flush any remaining cleaner from the group.
  6. The water in the blind filter should be clean. If the water is still dirty repeat the cleaning process again.
  7. Repeat steps 1 – 6 for each group head.
  8. Turn power to machine off and release pressure.

End of the Day

  1. It is recommended you turn off the machine at the power source every night to save on electricity and to allow you to turn off the water to the machine.
  2. Turn water off to the machine.  If mains pressure builds up over night you could end up with a flood.

IMPORTANT:  NEVER ALLOW STEAMER NOZZLE TO SOAK IN ANYTHING.
